Our Church
Victory Living Word Church was opened in 1992 by Pastor Makumbi Johnson and his wife, Anna. Our church is located in Kawempe Mbogo, a Moslem community (approximately 95% Moslem) and is about six miles North of Kampala (the capital of Uganda). Uganda is not a Moslem country and it is estimated that only 12% are Moslems, out of the population of 28 million. However, Moslems usually settle together and Kawempe Mbogo is one of those communities.
Evangelism in this community is not easy from a human perspective. We have suffered many things, however, our Lord stood with us through all the adversities. Our Lord can overcome any adversity and we are always encouraged by God’s law of assignment “What we have been assigned to do will determine the affliction and blessings, friends and enemies in our lives” – so be it. Even today, Pastor Makumbi Johnson bears the scars and shrapnel of a hand grenade; to God be the glory.
We began our church meetings in a house. We moved our services under a tree, then to a bamboo structure. God later provided a wooden structure for our church, and today, we are now gathering in a two thousand seater building. Praise the Lord!
