Children Program
“Reaching the Hope of Africa” Children’s Program:
Our church at Kawempe is located in a Moslem community. Despite the hardships we have been through many times, it was a challenge to reach this community with the Gospel. We have tried various ways of ministering to the community and the Holy Spirit inspired us to begin the Children’s Ministry in 2003. We started with 3 children and today, we have grown to 120 children are still growing. Most of these children have lost their parents because of HIV (AIDS). This ministry helps support the children by making it possible for them to attend school to further their education. It also provides some scholastic materials such as, school tuition, uniforms, school lunches, and other school supplies.
This ministry has been great tool because we have witnessed God penetrate the heart of the community. Not only have we seen people come to Christ, through this ministry, but God has bridged the gap between the community and our church. We do not currently provide an orphanage home for these children therefore they live with relatives. Many of these relatives are unable to pay the cost to support these additional children in their family with education.

We have introduced this Children’s Program to every community where we have planted a church. Ms. Sylvia Busulwa is our Secretary for the Children’s Program. She ensures that the program meets the needs of the children and follows up regularly to check on the progress being made in each community. She is responsible in organizing intercessory prayer groups from each of the branch churches to pray for the children and conducts regular meetings for the children in the various communities. We believe that it is important to ensure that the children are performing well in school and therefore Sylvia takes gifts to the children, visit their schools and homes, and arranges visits to the clinic to ensure that the children have proper health care. The main challenge we currently face is the transportation for this ministry to visit the distant communities, visit each individual home and school and transport the children to and from the clinics. The children once had no hope, but because of this Children’s Program, they now have a hope for a bright future.
Most of the people in our area sleep on dirt floors (very few have mattresses). We started giving mattresses to both the kids being sponsored and some needy elderly citizens. This had a profoundly positive effect on the community who were so surprised that we were sharing our love with everyone regardless of their beliefs. Our image in the village has changed dramatically. We now have people who voluntarily speak in support of our church when others complain about something we are doing. Since we are still seen as adversaries, problems are expected, but the overall situation is much improved.
